The top three priorities for the Education Portfolio are: to lead and inspire the development, delivery and support of a world-class student experience throughout UWA; to successfully implement the Education Futures vision and engage in a process of continual improvement of student education; and to build a shared culture within the Education portfolio based on communication, collaboration and co-operation.
Our outstanding educators are recognised through the annual UWA Awards for Excellence in Teaching, UWA Faculty Teaching Awards, and UWA Non-Faculty Awards.
UWA consistently ranks highly in international ratings. In 2019, the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) has placed UWA in the world’s top 10 in Mining and Mineral Engineering (5th), Marine/Ocean Engineering (7th) and Clinical Medicine (8th). UWA also improved 5 places from 91 to 86, in the 2020 QS World University Rankings.
Central to the education mission of the University is the provision of a world-class student experience by offering highly sought-after educational courses delivered with leading contemporary educational methods, alongside an outstanding holistic student experience leading to high levels of student satisfaction.
Responsibility for the quality and delivery of education at UWA primarily lies with our faculties and schools. They design and deliver courses and units, and are accountable for quality of teaching and student satisfaction with their educational experience. Leadership of the University’s academic programs and the institution's education mission is placed within the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education).The portfolio comprises Coursework Studies, Education Innovation, Business Information and Technology Services (BITS), Student Residences, Student Services and the University Library.
