Who is this advice sheet for?

This advice sheet is designed to assist in adding and changing unit availability for different teaching periods, modes and locations.

How do I add/change availability of the unit?

  1. It is common to have multiple modes and locations in many teaching periods.
  2. Go to 'Availabilities and calendar' section in the unit form.
  3. Complete a row in the following table for each teaching period at each location and mode in which the unit is offered. For example, you would need a row each for Semester 1 Crawley, Semester 1 Albany, and Non-standard teaching period in Crawley.
  4. You must have a row for each non-standard teaching period; you cannot have one row covering multiple offerings. For summer teaching periods, please refer to the UP07/133 University Policy on: Summer Session.

Modes of teaching

Face to face – 100% face to face attendance

Multimode – blended learning (for example 10% online, 90% face-to-face)

Online – 100% online unit, no attendance or regular contact required

External – delivered by an external provider

Adding an online mode

  1. To add an online mode to a unit set ‘Location’ as other.
  2. In the free text box type in ‘online’
  3. Set ‘Mode’ to online as shown in the picture below.

add an online mode

It is important to ensure that a new availability is added for each location and mode for each teaching period! This data flows on to Callista which sets unit availability for each mode/location separately.

Making a unit unavailable

  1. To make a unit not available in a year, remove all other availabilities in that year and create a single availability with the teaching period for the year 'Not available'.
  2. Please provide the standard location and mode for the unit even though it is unavailable.

make unit unavilable
