This information is intended to assist faculty users and other stakeholders who are developing a new unit or a special unit proposal.

Proposal forms are available on UWA's online curriculum management system CAIDi. Links to relevant policy and guidance documents are included in all proposal forms. A step-by-step guide is available: CAIDi Advice Sheet on: Creating a proposal.

New unit proposal

New units can be submitted in the following situations:

  • as part of a new major, honours specialisation or postgraduate course
  • as part of a change to an exisitng major, honours specialisation or postgraduate course
  • as a new undergraduate unattached elective
  • as a new unit taught in the summer teaching period as detailed in the University Policy on: Summer Session

Submit

  • Faculties should undertake a quality check before submitting proposals.
  • Units intended to be part of a new course or a change to a course should be submitted alongside that course proposal.
  • Undergraduate unit proposals seeking recogniton of broadening 'Category A' status should refer to the framework for guidance.
  • To guarantee approval for 2018 offerings, proposals have to be received by the latest recommended date.

  • The development of a new special unit involves the formulation of a new special unit proposal form via CAIDi and fast-track approval from the relevant board.
  • Special units can only be created for one teaching period in a very limited range of circumstances.

Submit

  • Faculties should undertake a quality check before submitting proposals.
  • Proposals for new special units can be submitted at any time.
